We’re adding to our team!

June 7th, 2011

We’re adding 2-3 new pastry chefs to our fun team! Come join us!

——–
WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Availability to work in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood.
4 days | 15-20 hours a week (additional hours when needed). Public transportation is available on the Grand Avenue bus.

- Common sense and experience in a fast-paced environment.
In a high production environment like ours (especially in the baking industry), things come up. You will need to work quickly, think on your feet, make focused decisions (often without direction) and be flexible when last minute changes occur.

- Inventory management experience.
You should be able to monitor ingredients/finished product and place weekly ingredient orders.

- Cleanliness.
We make a lot of cupcakes, so being organized, neat and clean – both in production and in storage – is key.

- Team player attitude.
We’re looking for people who are positive, energetic and bring suggestions to the table in line with our company’s manifesto.

- Focus on quality.
Our cupcakes are known in the Chicago area for being some of the best. We have strict standards of quality to make sure that our customers are satisfied – both with their cupcakes and with their overall experience. Having a keen eye for detail along with being quick and efficient are key. High level piping skills and the ability to follow recipes are essential.

- Communication.
Things change daily, and being in constant communication with key team members on a daily basis is critical. CRITICAL!

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Food Sanitation Certificate
High School Diploma (GED Acceptable)
Ability to follow recipes in English
Solid conversion and math skills

Cupcakeologist Cali’s Favorites

June 1st, 2011

Introducing . . . Cali’s Favorites!

Says Cali:

Nothing says summer to me like fresh fruits and flowers…

Peachy Keen, Lime In De Coconut and Bananarama Chocolate are all classic summer flavors – it’s impossible not to love them!

My own personal favorite out of the bunch is Luscious Lavender, though. Most people wouldn’t think of eating a cupcake infused with lavender, but the subtleness makes for a great sensory experience.

Hope you all enjoy as much as I do!

xo – Cali

By the way, Cali’s Favorites will be available from June 1st through August 30th.

Graduation Party Guide

May 19th, 2011
We asked parents of last year’s graduates what they wish they would have known last year. In no particular order, here are their responses:

1. Don’t graduate and party on the same day.
No matter how well you think you have things figured out, there will ALWAYS be a glitch. So just – don’t.
- Julie, Naperville

2. Brag, brag, brag.
Show off your kid’s accomplishments. No shame!
- Carla, Chicago

3. Talk to your neighbors.
We had over 100 people attend our daughter’s graduation party, and it slipped our mind to let the neighborhood know. Our backyard neighbor had to reschedule a fence repainting that day for us! We felt terrible.
- Ben, Evanston

4. Finger foods are best.
Unless your party is at a restaurant and there is ample seating for everyone, finger foods are best. And make sure you keep hot things hot and cold things cold. We had Foiled Cupcakes at my son’s graduation party last year, and they were the hit of the party… and great for us since there were no dessert plates to clean afterwards!
- Patty, Chicago

5. Join forces.
We hosted one big graduation party at a local reception hall for 4 graduates. Not only did this help us minimize costs, but the kids had a great time, and all of the guests (who would have had to go to four different parties) were grateful to only have to go to one.
- Dave, Addison

Congratulations to the Class of 2011 – and don’t forget to check out our Graduation Cupcake Bundle!

Thank a Teacher Contest

May 17th, 2011

Congratulations, Class of 2011!

One of my favorite teachers in high school was Ms. Aldridge. Not just a history teacher, she was also a friend and confidante who constantly found ways to make the Industrial Revolution and trench warfare interesting and memorable.

If I could, I’d send her a dozen cupcakes today to thank her for making history interesting for me and Jocelyn. But since I can’t, we’ve decided to let YOU thank your teachers instead.

1 – Email us (hey@foiledcupcakes.com) by WEDNESDAY, 5/25/11 with the following information:
-Your favorite teacher’s name and school
-Subject/class
-The most valuable lesson you learned from him/her
-Ms. Aldridge in the subject line

2 – We’ll select our favorite 5 entries and send that teacher a dozen cupcakes as a gift from you.

3 – We’ll post winners on our blog, along with your submission.

Let the e-mails come in!

And don’t forget to check out our Graduation Cupcake Bundle, available for order through Wednesday, May 25th.

As always, the rules are here. Those under 18, this means you.

Receiving is Better Than Giving

May 12th, 2011

This cracked us up. Thanks for writing, Kathleen!

“I received the Mother’s Day bundle from my children this past weekend and loved them. I ”gently encouraged” the kids each give me a little of each of the ones they had, so I could try them all!! I have given your cupcakes as gifts before, but have to be honest in saying it is better to receive than give as far as Foiled Cupcakes are concerned!!!!”

-Kathleen, Sugar Grove

Moms Rock!

May 11th, 2011

Mother’s Day is one of our busiest holidays, and for good reason. Here’s what some of our Facebook fans had to say about that:

Cathy Maggard Cahill

Cathy C: My kids think I’m great because I ordered Foiled Cupcakes for Mommy’s Day :)

Tom Nawara

Tom N: My mom is the kindest, most giving person I have ever known. I am extremely grateful to have been passed down even a small portion of those traits. Happy Mother’s Day, mom!

Cathy S: My son said to me today, “I’m going to call today Happy Happy Day because you make me so happy!” Thought I was going to melt. ;)

Greg Christensen

Greg C: My mom’s house is full of priceless art. And goats. See here: http://tinyurl.com/3d29nnh And here:http://thebanshees.blogspot.com/2011/01/christmas-recap-part-4-nanas-house.html

Thanks for sharing, friends!

Girls Night Out at Fleet Feet

May 10th, 2011

If you have a ticket to Fleet Feet’s Girls Night Out event today or tomorrow, come find Katie or Mari. (We’ll be the ones with the cupcakes.)

See you there!

Top 10 for Mother’s Day

May 1st, 2011

Our Mother’s Day Cupcake Bundle features 16 cupcakes: a Dozen of our Favorites + a sampler 4-pack of our newest flavors (Swizzle, Cheeseberry, Hang Loose, Ginger & Fred), along with super fun, mom-inspired Mother’s Day Quippies.

But what is Mom to do with all of those cupcakes? Here are our customers’ (and their kids’) top 10 ideas.

10 – “Eat them all. You deserve to.” – Nancy, West Chicago

9 – “Give three to each kid, then hand the kids to Dad for the day, all sugared up.” – Amy, Naperville

8 – “Freeze them and eat one a day for the next 16 days.” – Michelle, Chicago

7 – “Take all of the cupcakes to the spa for a mani/pedi day, and eat with the other moms who are there.” – Cathy, Wheaton

6 – “Give Mom a tray of cupcakes in bed.” – Anthony, Chicago

5 – “Attach a love coupon to every cupcake, and hide them around the house for a scavenger hunt.” – Caroline, Downers Grove

4 – “Pitch a fit about how you don’t like how your food tastes/looks/smells, and announce that you’re going to eat dessert only.” – Kelly, Hyde Park

3 – “Take a box over to your neighbor and tell her she has made a difference in your life.” – Diane, Addison

2 – “Give them to Mom with a card that says, ‘Isn’t this better than the blender I got you last year?’” – Eric, Oak Park

1 – “Tell Mom they’re fat-free and that calories don’t count on Mother’s Day.” – Emily, Evanston

Thanks, everyone, for your responses! And enjoy our first 16-pack Mother’s Day bundle!

Thanks, Diana!

Hope you all enjoyed the crazy foil AND the company cupcakes!
