February 10th, 2010I just took a look at our Twitter page and had no idea we were over 5,000 followers. Wow!
So in honor of each of the 5,014 followers we have on Twitter (to whom we owe every piece of our growth and success), I’m going to do the unthinkable:
I’m going to run.
One meter for every one of you. 5,014 meters. A 5K + an additional 14 meters to the water fountain.
If you know me at all, you know I’d rather sing karaoke in front of thousands, kiss a snake, eat stinky cheese, talk to a complete stranger, or listen to country than run. Even like 10 feet. I hate running.
But thanks to everyone who’s supported us to this point, and faithful runners who inspire me like Chanthana, Kate, Jacqueline, Sue, Tim, Carla, Paige, and Heather, I’m dedicating my first real 5k to all of you who have been the true backbone of our business for the past eight months.
And from the bottom of our mixing bowls, we at the Foiled Cupcakes team all thank you.
Now I just need to find a race. Any suggestions?
- Mari
P.S. A special thanks to Fleet Feet for getting me all set up with new shoes for my first run. (How did they know that I’d do pretty much anything to have an excuse to buy new shoes?)
The INDY 500 Festival does a 5K race in May. I would check it out: http://www.500festival.com/marathon/500Festival5K.asp
I know it is pretty popular!
Girls on the Run 5K June 5th.

I’m so proud of you, Mari! I am in awe to see Foiled collect 5k followers and to see you so motivated with your running
Consider the Fleet Feet Sports Ravenswood 5k on April 25 (Sunday). http://www.fleetfeetchicago.com/htm/events_races_ravens.asp
Congrats, Mari! I remember a tweet of yours from not so long ago that said something to the effect that you’re starting to actually LIKE running! Remember that?! Hmm, I have yet to participate in a spring 5k here in Chicago, but here is what I can think of off the top of my head:
St. Paddy’s Day 5k (3/14 I think)
Earth Day 5k (sometime in April)
Girls on the Run 5k (love this cause)
I’ll second the GOTR 5K. It’s a fantastic cause and so much fun to see all the little girls out there busting their butts!
Plus: Brunch at Glenn’s Diner on Montrose afterward. Chocolate pancakes are the BEST post-race fuel.
Mari,
Thank you so much for including me and I’m very happy to be one of the 5014 followers! I like you am just starting my running and will be doing my first 5k on April 17 in Libertyville. http://www.takeastepforkids.org/page1.aspx
We’ll keep each other motivated for the first race!
Great, everyone! Thanks for your comments. I can’t wait to join the ranks of the “running elite.” (I just laughed out loud as I typed that - such a ridiculous thing to say. Ha!)
Paige, I’m all for brunch. Count me in!
